Mamadou Sakho says his back injury isn't serious

Mamadou Sakho has moved to play down fears over his fitness ahead of Liverpool’s clash against West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday.

The France international was forced off in the second half of normal time in the Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

However, the 24-year-old centre-half made a return to light training on Thursday afternoon, taking to Twitter to give fans an update on his back injury.

Sakho has been a key part of Liverpool’s recent good form, with the Reds unbeaten in 10 games with the French star in the side before their 1-0 extra-time defeat by Chelsea.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender was sidelined for the best part of three months after the powerful centre-half picked up a thigh injury in late September.

Sakho has scored one goal in 29 appearances in all competitions following his £20m move to Liverpool from the Ligue 1 champions in 2013.
