Steven Gerrard was touched by the sight of a new flag dedicated to the Liverpool skipper
Steven Gerrard was clearly moved by a flag dedicated to the Liverpool captain which made its Anfield debut on Tuesday night.
The 34-year-old Reds skipper is set to leave his boyhood club for MLS outfit LA Galaxy at the end of the season following a decorated 17-year career.
Gerrard showed his appreciation for the new banner which was produced by some creative Liverpool fans for the club’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the League Cup.
The flag sported the following caption: “THE BEST THERE IS, THE BEST THERE WAS, THE BEST THERE EVER WILL BE”
Taking to Instagram following the first leg of the semi-final clash, the Liverpool captain paid tribute to his adoring supporters ahead of their trip to Stamford Bridge next week.
Gerrard wrote: “Proud of my new flag on the kop thanks to the lads who are behind it . .great support again tonight . All to play for next week . #spionkop #ynwa”
Gerrard came close to sealing a 2-1 win in the second half but the former England captain was denied by the woodwork before he was replaced by Adam Lallana.
The Liverpool captain has won the League Cup on three previous occasions.
