Thibaut Courtois reflects on Chelsea's great League Cup win
Thibaut Courtois has reflected on Chelsea’s ‘amazing victory’ over Liverpool to book their place in the Capital One Cup final.
The Blues goalkeeper produced four saves to deny the Reds in normal time to leave the second-leg goalless after a 1-1 draw last week.
Liverpool were unable to score a vital away goal in extra time after Branislav Invanovic headed a 94th-minute winner for the hosts.
Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois was quick to thank the Blues fans for their rousing support at Stamford Bridge last night.
Courtois wrote on Instagram: “Great victory yesterday! Thanks for the amazing support, see you in Wembley! #CFC”
Courtois made a total of nine save over the two legs to limit Liverpool to one goal, particularly impressing with a man-of-the-match performance at Anfield.
And Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers felt the towering Belgium international was the difference between the two sides over two legs in the League Cup clash.
“I think we were the better side over the two games, but ultimately you’ve got to get the place in the final,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s website following the defeat.
“I think the goalkeeper for them has won them the tie really. Performance-wise, we were outstanding. Again tonight, some of our play was very good and we created chances.”
Courtois returned from an extended three-year long loan spell at Atletico Madrid in the summer.
