Arsenal confirm signing of Gabriel Paulista for reported £11.3m fee

Arsenal have completed the signing of Villarreal centre-half Gabriel Paulista.

The 24-year-old defender sealed his much-anticipated switch to the FA Cup holders on Wendesday evening.

The Gunners were granted a work permit for the promising centre-half on Monday before finalising their second January transfer.

Gabriel, who is also comfortable playing at full-back, will help to provide further competition for places in Arsenal’s defensive ranks.

The uncapped Brazilian won two Campeonato Baiano titles before the defender sealed a switch to La Liga side Villarreal in 2013.

The Sao Paulo-born star made 50 appearances for the Yellow Submarine in all competitions after signing a five-year deal upon his La Liga move.

However, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has successfully lured the South American to The Emirates.

Costa Rica international Joel Campbell has joined Villarreal on loan until the end of the season after struggling to secure a starting spot under Arsene Wenger this term.
