Rodgers delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Bolton tie
Brendan Rodgers says Joe Allen, Mario Balotelli and Glen Johnson are available
Brendan Rodgers says Joe Allen, Mario Balotelli and Glen Johnson are available for the clash against Bolton, but Daniel Sturridge won’t be fit for the FA Cup fourth-round tie.
Allen and Johnson haven’t featured for the Reds since a humiliating 3-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford in early December due to injury.
And Liverpool manager Rodgers, who hasn’t won a trophy since taking over in 2012, was happy to have the pair available for the Trotters game at Anfield on Saturday.
“Joe Allen has been back and trained this week, which has been great,” Rodgers told his pre-match media conference.
“Glen Johnson has had a good week’s training, so he’ll be available.”
Rodgers added that Italy international Mario Balotelli will be available for selection amid ongoing speculation linking the striker with a return to Serie A.
“Mario has trained as well, so he is available,” Rodgers continued.
However, the Northern Irishman confirmed 25-year-old Sturridge is still recovering from his latest thigh injury, although the manager hopes the striker will be ready to return by the end of January.
Rodgers added: “We’re still waiting [on Sturridge]. He’s still working, but he won’t be available for the weekend.
“Brad [Jones] is still out and won’t be available and Jon [Flanagan] is not part of the squad as of yet.”
Sturridge hasn’t featured for Liverpool since a 3-0 victory at Tottenham Hotspur in August.
