Theo Walcott: Alexis Sanchez is lifting Arsenal players
Theo Walcott heaps praise on Alexis Sanchez following his stunning form for Arsenal
Theo Walcott believes that Alexis Sanchez’s stunning form for Arsenal is beginning to inspire his team-mates.
The Chilean has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season after joining the north London club from Barcelona in a £35m deal last summer.
Sanchez has already scored 17 goals in all competitions and notched up eight assists for his team-mates.
The 26-year-old has also been praised for his work-rate for Arsene Wenger’s men – and Walcott says that the former Udinese man has been setting a brilliant example for his team-mates.
“You see somebody working so hard and it makes you want to try to back him up,” Walcott told Arsenal Player.
He is amazing because he spots things that a lot of players won’t
“When you see what he does off the pitch, behind the scenes at the training ground, and how much work he puts in, all the players just stand up and think ‘Yeah, I need to a bit more as well then’.
“It’s about getting that balance right. We told him during the Christmas period to relax a little bit, but he still cracked on with his gym work! He’s that sort of person – nothing will make him tired. It’s healthy to see, because the Premier League is very fast, but he’s coped with it fine.”
The England international, who is currently on his way back to full fitness following his lengthy lay-off with a knee injury, is looking forward to getting a sustained run in the Arsenal first-team alongside Sanchez.
“He is amazing because he spots things that a lot of players won’t,” he continued.
“I tend to make my runs off the ball and he is always looking for that. He drags more players on to him, which creates more space for other people and I do the same thing.
“It is a great balance and once I am fully fit, I think it is going to be some force for the Premier League to handle.”
Arsenal’s next game is a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners head into the clash having beaten defending champions Manchester City 2-0 at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
