Van Gaal delivers latest Man United injury update ahead of Cambridge tie
Louis van Gaal says Robin van Persie is fit and ready to face Cambridge United on Friday
Robin van Persie is fit and ready for Manchester United’s FA Cup clash with Cambridge United, Louis van Gaal has revealed.
The Dutch striker has not featured for the Red Devils since sustaining an ankle problem during the 1-0 defeat by Southampton at Old Trafford but has been passed fit for Friday’s fourth-round clash.
Van Gaal also revealed that Luke Shaw is available for selection again after the defender missed last weekend’s 2-0 win at Queens Park Rangers.
However, the Red Devils will be without Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans for Friday night’s clash against Cambridge.
“We have to wait until training but Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are out for sure,” Van Gaal said in an interview with MUTV.
“Robin Van Persie is available, Luke Shaw is also available.”
The Manchester United boss also refused to respond to media speculation claiming that goalkeeper Victor Valdes could be set to start Friday night’s game ahead of first-choice shot-stopper David De Gea.
The Dutchman added: “I find it unbelievable how the media can write that. I don’t want to say anything about my line-up until just before the game.”
United are currently fourth in the Premier League table after their 2-0 win over QPR last weekend.
