Angel di Maria and Wayne Rooney discuss the Argentine's brilliant strike at Leicester City
Angel di Maria and Wayne Rooney appear to building a growing understanding on-and-off the pitch after the Manchester United pair named their Red Devils goal of the season so far.
After initially joking one of his strikes should be crowned the best goal, Rooney opted for Di Maria’s brilliant lob in a 5-3 victory over Leicester City at King Power Stadium in August.
Di Maria lifted the ball over Kasper Schmeichel’s head from just inside the Dane’s area to hand United a commanding lead before a second-half collapse saw the Foxes seal a famous win.
Di Maria said in the above clip: “It was a nice play that started in midfied. I passed it on to Rooney, who then passed it back to me, and I think the only option left was for me to chip it.
“A beautiful goal and I am really happy.”
Even United centre-half Marcos Rojo, somewhat begrudgingly, agreed with his compatriot.
However, Di Maria has struggled to hit those early heights for United following his British-record £59.7m move to Old Trafford from Real Madrid in August.
The Argentina international has scored three goals and made six assists in 14 Premier League appearances.
