Willian, Carragher and more: Twitter reacts as Chelsea beat Liverpool

Willian and Jamie Carragher both tweet their thoughts as Chelsea beat Liverpool to reach the League Cup final

Chelsea booked their place in the League Cup final thanks to a 2-1 aggregate victory over Liverpool.

With the score at 1-1 after the semi-final first leg at Anfield last week, Branislav Ivanovic’s 94th-minute header won it for the Blues after an enthralling contest at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts were denied a penalty in the first half after Martin Skrtel’s clumsy tackle on Diego Costa, who was earlier lucky not to be sent off for a stamp on Emre Can.

But Chelsea held firm and Ivanovic netted the winner late on to secure the Blues’ spot in the final against either Tottenham or Sheffield United.

Tuesday’s big game prompted plenty of activity on Twitter – here are some of our favourite updates.

Ex-Liverpool man Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) is upset: “Disappointed with the result delighted with the performance. Bodes well for the top 4 challenge.”

Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) criticises some of Liverpool’s defending: “For the Chelsea goal if Liverpool were man for man then all you do is pick up as you would for a corner. Zonal is a recipe for disaster.”

Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) enjoyed the spectacle: “Great game of football. Chelsea’s ability and knowledge to get results made the difference. Gallant effort by LFC but more needed.”

Chelsea midfielder Ramires (@Rami7oficial) is clearly happy: “Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!! We’re in the final!!!! @ChelseaFC !”

As is Blues playmaker Oscar (@oscar8): “Vamos para Wembley !!! “Come on for Wembley !!!”

Willian (@willianborges88) is also a happy man: “Yeeees we are going to Wembley. #CFC #FINAL.”

And that just leaves a disappointed Lucas Leiva (@LucasLeiva87) to have the final say: “Just want to thank you the support we got and say sorry that we couldn’t make to the final. YNWA”
