Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger plays down Tottenham’s home advantage
Arsene Wenger does not believe that home advantage will be a factor for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday
Arsene Wenger has claimed that playing at home won’t necessarily be a positive factor for Tottenham Hotspur when they host Arsenal on Saturday.
The Gunners head to White Hart Lane looking to continue their fine run of form after having won their last five games in all competitions in an impressive start to 2015.
The two north London rivals played out a 1-1 draw at Emirates Stadium in their last meeting earlier in the season and the two sides head into Saturday’s game with just two points separating them in the table.
In the derbies the home ground is not too significant sometimes
But Wenger has warned Mauricio Pochettino’s side that the perceived advantage of playing at home is often non-existent during high-intensity derby games.
“Yes [it is a special game] of course because the two teams are fighting very hard to be at the top of the league and I think it can be a spectacular game,” Wenger told a news conference at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Friday morning.
“Look, in the derbies the home ground is not too significant sometimes because it’s high commitment and high pace.
“We just focus on the quality of our game and the quality of our performance, no matter where we play. We’ll do the same tomorrow.”
Arsenal are currently fifth in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Chelsea heading into Saturday afternoon’s derby showdown.
They thrashed Aston Villa 5-0 at Emirates Stadium in their most recent Premier League outing.
