Arsenal star out-performing Man United’s record signing, claims Redknapp
Jamie Redknapp has been disappointed by Angel di Maria's recent displays for Manchester United
Jamie Redknapp has criticised Angel di Maria’s recent performances for Manchester United, claiming that the Argentina international has been “really poor” for Louis van Gaal’s men.
The 26-year-old has struggled to replicate his stellar displays from earlier in the season after initially impressing following his £60m transfer to Old Trafford from Real Madrid.
Di Maria has scored four goals and made six assists in all competitions for the Red Devils this term but has only scored once in his last 10 games, and that goal came against Yeovil Town more than a month ago.
Alexis Sanchez, meanwhile, has been in superb form for Arsenal since his £35m switch to Emirates Stadium from Barcelona in the summer, scoring 18 goals in all competitions for Arsene Wenger’s men.
And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp believes that Di Maria has been emphatically outshone by Arsenal’s new-found talisman.
“I thought Di Maria would rip the league apart but he’s faded,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“He’s been really poor, especially compared to Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal. He’s been played in too many different positions though and it hasn’t paid off. Van Persie has not been the same since Fergie left.
“The only real solution for Van Gaal is to forget about egos and price tags and leave a big name or two on the bench.”
Manchester United take on Burnley at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
