Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger discusses deadline day plans
Arsene Wenger says that it is unlikely Arsenal will make any signings on Monday
Arsene Wenger has suggested that he does not expect Arsenal to make any more signings before Monday’s transfer deadline.
The Gunners have already brought in Gabriel Paulista and Krystian Bielik this month as the Frenchman added to his defensive options at Emirates Stadium.
However, the north London side continue to be linked with moves for a number of Europe’s top players, with Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus the latest man to be touted as a possible target for the club.
Wenger watched his Arsenal side romp to an impressive 5-0 victory over Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
And quizzed about his plans for deadline day, Wenger said that he was not expecting to conclude any late deals.
“I don’t think I will be busy,” Wenger told his post-match news conference.
“We have done what we wanted and unless there is a huge surprise and somebody calls me – not the journalists, an agent – then why not? At the moment, nothing, it’s very quiet.”
Sunday’s win lifted Arsenal up to fifth place in the Premier League and 11 points behind leaders Chelsea. Their next game is a trip to local rivals Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday.
