Arsenal transfers: Atletico want Santi Cazorla, says La Liga expert
Atletico are convinced they can persuade Santi Cazorla to move to Madrid, says Guillem Balague
Atletico Madrid are confident of convincing Santi Cazorla to complete a summer return to La Liga, according to Guillem Balague.
The Spain international has been Arsenal’s standout player in recent months, particularly in the absence of fellow midfielders Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.
Cazorla has just 18 months remaining on his current Arsenal deal, and Atletico manager Diego Simeone is reportedly keen to bolster his los Rojiblancos squad following injuries to Koke and Arda Turan.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Revista show, Balague claimed that Atletico are confident that they can persuade the Arsenal midfielder to complete a return to La Liga at the end of the season.
““He has 18 months left on his contract at Arsenal, and Atletico have contacted Cazorla’s entourage,” Balague said.
“Atletico are convinced that they can persuade the player to join them. Then they just have to pay the money.
“There will be one year left on his contract in the summer, and will be available for cheaper.”
The 30-year-old has scored six goals and has made six assists in 21 Premier League appearances for the FA Cup winners this term.
Cazorla has netted 22 Premier League goals after the playmaker joined Arsenal from La Liga outfit Malaga in 2012.
