Arsenal transfers: Loic Perrin reveals ‘serious’ Gunners talks
Loic Perrin says that he was close to joining Arsenal during the January transfer window
Loic Perrin has revealed that he came close to joining Arsenal last month after holding “serious” talks with the Gunners.
The Saint Etienne defender was touted as a possible target for Arsene Wenger’s side as the Frenchman looked to bolster his rearguard options at Emirates Stadium.
A club like Arsenal, I don’t think many Ligue 1 players would refuse
Perrin revealed that his agent held constructive talks with the north London side about a possible transfer to the club last month.
However, a move failed to materialise as Arsenal opted to sign Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal.
And the 29-year-old admits that he would have jumped at the chance to move to Arsenal.
“There were serious contacts via my agent. I think I was on a shortlist but not at the very top apparently,” Perrin is quoted as saying by Metro.
“A transfer in this window, it is difficult. But it is difficult to refuse Arsenal. I have always said that if I have to leave St Étienne, one day, it would be for a bigger club, a club that plays Champions League.

Arsenal’s next game is a trip to north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. The Gunners are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Chelsea.
