Arsenal transfers: Sami Khedira drops hint about his future

Sami Khedira insists that his future remains up in the air amid the speculation linking him with a move to Arsenal

Sami Khedira has handed Arsenal a boost in their reported pursuit of the midfielder by declaring that he is “keeping his options open” about his future beyond the summer.

The Germany international, whose contract at Real Madrid expires at the end of the season, was heavily linked with a big-money transfer to the north London club last summer.

A move to Emirates Stadium failed to materialise but the speculation surrounding his future has continued as he approaches the end of his contract.

Now, the World Cup winner has further fuelled the uncertainty about his future by saying that his situation is still “unclear”.

Speaking to German newspaper Bild, Khedira said that he still does not know where his future lies, amid fresh reports linking him with a transfer to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

“It’s not true that I’ve already got an agreement with a Bundesliga club. My future is yet to be decided and I’m keeping my options open at this point,” Khedira told Bild.

Speaking back in August, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insisted that he had no plans to sign Khedira, despite the heavy speculation linking him with the north London club.

“I don’t know who has put Khedira on the market – is it his agent or the press?” said Wenger.

“We were never close to signing him because Jack Wilshere has come back fit and in midfield we have quite a few offensive box-to-box players.”

Should Arsenal sign Sami Khedira?
