Arsenal’s Francis Coquelin looking forward to Tottenham derby
Francis Coquelin can't wait for Saturday's north London derby
Francis Coquelin says he is relishing Saturday’s north London derby at White Hart Lane.
The France Under-21 international is expected to retain his place in Arsene Wenger’s starting line-up after a series of impressive performance this year.
Arsenal make the short trip across London to their bitter rivals fresh from a 5-0 victory over Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium last weekend.
And Gunners midfielder Coquelin revealed that the Arsenal squad are looking forward to the derby clash as they look to extend five-game winning streak.
“It’s a massive game for the club and the fans,” Coquelin told Arsenal’s website. “I think everyone is looking forward to it. The Manchester City match was a big one, and this one has got a special something about it.
“Even at youth level, we got a lot of stick from their fans and the atmosphere was really good. It just makes you want to do even better for your team and win the game.
“When you play for Arsenal against Tottenham, it’s not about just playing your game, it’s about winning. You have to win it. For the fans and the team it’s a big game and it’s one we want to win.”
Coquelin has helped the north London side keep three successive clean sheets in their last three league games, beating Stoke City, Manchester City and Villa.
The Gunners youngster has spent loan spells at Lorient, Freiburg and Charlton Athletic before nailing down a permanent place in the Arsenal side in recent weeks.
Arsenal are a point behind third-placed Manchester United, whilst Mauricio Pochettino’s men are two points adrift of their north London rivals.
