Serge Gnabry has backed Arsenal’s club-record signing Mesut Ozil to showcase his talent ahead of the visit of Monaco in the Champions League.

The £42.5m signing is expected to line up against the Ligue 1 side for the first leg of their last-16 clash at The Emirates on Wednesday night.

Ozil has scored three goals and has made two assists in seven appearances in all competitions after the Germany international made his return from a serious knee injury.

The 24-year-old was criticised for his patchy form before his knee problem, and Gnabry isn’t surprised to see his compatriot hit the ground running following his return to fitness.

Gnabry told Arsenal’s website: “First of all, it’s because he’s healthy.

“He’s back on the pitch and everybody loves to be back out there playing and competing on the pitch. I think that gives him a big boost to his potential he has already. Now it’s time for him to show it.

“He’s been out with injuries but I’m very happy that he’s back and has scored a couple of goals in the last games.

“We get along quite well and spend a lot of time together with training and hanging out a lot. The both of us just got through [being injured] together and it’s always nice to have someone next to you.”

Ozil, who moved to Arsenal from Real Madrid in a club-record deal in 2013, has scored four times and has created four goals for his team-mates in 13 games this term.

Arsenal, who are in third place in the Premier League table, are attempting to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2010.
