Arsene Wenger challenges Theo Walcott to score for Arsenal in every game
Arsene Wenger claims that Theo Walcott should be scoring on a much more regular basis for Arsenal
Arsene Wenger has claimed that Theo Walcott has the ability to score in “every game” for Arsenal as the forward continues his return to full fitness.
The England international netted Arsenal’s third goal with a cool finish as the Gunner romped to a 5-0 win over Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
The 25-year-old, who has recently returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, also found the net in last weekend’s 3-2 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
And Wenger believes that Walcott has the ability to be scoring on a much more regular basis for the north London side.
“I still feel he can score a goal in every game,” Wenger said of Walcott in his post-match news conference.
“In his overall game I still think he needs some more sharpness and more contact.
“He’s a very intelligent player and the quality of Theo’s game is about the quality of his movement, the quality of his receptions, where he gets the ball. He knows where to be dangerous and when he’s in front of goal he can score.”
Arsenal’s next Premier League game is Saturday’s trip to White Hart Lane to face local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby.
Sunday’s impressive win lifted the Gunners up to fifth place in the table and 11 points behind leaders Chelsea.
