Arsene Wenger sure Arsenal will beat Tottenham to top-four finish
Arsene Wenger is confident that Arsenal have what it takes to seal a top-four finish yet again this season
Arsene Wenger has underlined his belief that Arsenal will beat Tottenham to a top-four finish this season, despite watching Spurs leapfrog his side in the Premier League table this weekend.
The Gunners were beaten 2-1 by Mauricio Pochettino’s men at White Hart Lane on Saturday as Spurs moved a point ahead of their fierce local rivals in the table.
However, with Arsenal having secured top-four finishes for the last 17 consecutive seasons, Wenger is confident that his side have the experience needed to qualify for next term’s Champions League.
I am confident we can do it again
“Of course, experience will play a big part in it,” Wenger told a news conference on Friday morning. “It will be tight for everybody and that is what it is about.
“It is about the team with the most consistency – I have always said that – and I feel we have shown that we can deal with that kind of pressure in the past.
“I am confident we can do it again. Every year [there is a danger of not finishing in the top four] and every year we were under threat until the last game, basically. [But] every year we have managed to do it.
“We have a good opportunity to show that we have the strength to deal with that pressure and I am completely convinced we have the quality [to do it].”
Arsenal host Leicester City at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night as they look to return to winning way following their disappointing defeat by Spurs.
The Gunners went ahead at White Hart Lane thanks to Mesut Ozil’s opener, but Harry Kane’s second-half double turned the game on its head and won it for Spurs.
Arsenal are currently two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
