Bullard, Lineker and more: Twitter reacts as Man United hold West Ham

Jimmy Bullard and Gary Lineker react on Twitter to Man United's 1-1 draw with West Ham

Daley Blind came to Manchester United’s rescue after the midfielder scored a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw with West Ham United at Upton Park.

The Hammers were on the brink of securing a deserved three points after Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate broke the deadlock in the 49th minute.

But the United midfielder levelled deep into added time, and here is the best of the Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, in chronological order to a dramatic finale in east London.

Norman Whiteside’s wife (@WhitesideDee) sums up the thoughts of most United fans after David De Gea kept the visitors in the game: “Dear Man United Directors, please sign a blank piece of paper for a 10 year contract, hand it to @D_DeGea, and let him fill in the rest!!”

Former United defender Danny Higginbotham (@Higginbotham05) wants Louis van Gaal to adopt the long-ball approach after a frustrating first half: “Fellaini should come on up top for @ManUtd then they can by pass the midfield which west ham are winning at the moment. Get runners off him”

Ronnie Irani (@RonnieIrani1) is encouraged by the east London side’s first-half performance at Upton Park: “Happy Hammers edged the first half there. Tactically Sam defo the upper hand. Louis needs inspire the Man United team here!”

Spurs legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) makes light of criticism directed at Van Gaal for playing Wayne Rooney in a midfield role: “I think Roy should play @WayneRooney in midfield for England. Or better still as a central defender. Sir Bobby Charlton might agree.”

Chelsea coach Jody Morris (@morriskid) isn’t impressed by United’s big-name summer signings, and the Blues know a thing or two about shrewd acquisitions: “Shaw..DiMaria..Falcao..Rojo..Blind..has any of these new signings really produced yet??”

Southampton legend Le Tissier (@mattletiss7) appreciates the skill involved in Kouyate’s opener at Upton Park: “Great couple of touches from kouyate there, deserved the luck with the deflection”

Manchester City legend Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10) gives his Twitter followers an insight into Van Gaal’s thinking: “Plan B get Fellaini on and put it in the mixer !!! #lvgbluffer”

More from Lineker (@GaryLineker), who comes up with a clever pun to describe United’s equaliser: “Blinding goal!”

Finally, former Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard (@jimmybullard) is gutted for West Ham United after Blind’s last-gasp equaliser: “Oh bloody hell #westham”
