Carragher, Hamann and more: Twitter reacts as Liverpool beat Spurs

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction after Liverpool are dramatic-3-2 winners against Tottenham

Mario Balotelli ended his Premier League drought after the Liverpool striker struck late to seal a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Saturday.

Reds forward Lazar Markovic edged the home side into a 15th-minute lead before Harry Kane levelled with his 21st goal of the season, and Moussa Dembele cancelled out Steven Gerrard’s second-half penalty to leave the match all square.

However, substitute Balotelli netted his first league goal since moving to Anfield with six minutes remaining in the clash, prompting a flurry of tweets from the professionals, past and present. Here is a selection of our favourite listed in chronological order.

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) has his own twist on Balotelli’s infamous catchphrase: “Why sometimes him?”

Reds legend Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) has no qualms about the £16m that Liverpool coughed up for the Italy international: “Mario!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worth every penny.”

Former Crystal Palace striker Mark Bright (@Mark__Bright) must be a patient man when it comes to postal deliveries at his house: “What….. the Postman just delivered….. Go on Mario #LFC 3-2 Spurs”

Liverpool cult hero Luis Garcia (@LuchoGarcia14) is eyeing Champions League football for the Merseyside outfit next season: “After 25 games Balotelli scores his 1st premier league goal and gives the 3 points to Liverpool, now closer to the 4th on the table.#YNWA”

Reds and Spurs legend Ray Clemence (@RayClem1) singles out Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for special praise: “Great game @LFC and @SpursOfficial both sides gave it everything. Great saves @SMignolet”

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) really fancies Brendan Rodgers’ men to secure a top-four finish: “Another fantastic result for the Reds. Top 4 a strong possibility now, Spurs have come long way under Poccettino and won’t be far off either”

Finally, former Reds striker Neil Mellor (@NeilMellor33) is gutted to miss an entertaining game at Anfield: “Sounds like I missed a cracker at Anfield tonight! Could well prove to be a massive win in battle for 4th!!”
