Chelsea transfers: Wolfsburg confirm the signing of Andre Schurrle

Andre Schurrle signs a four-and-a-half year contract with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg after leaving Chelsea

Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of Andre Schurrle from Chelsea in a £22m deal.

The midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half year contract to keep him at the Bundesliga side until June 2019 after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a transfer away from Chelsea in recent weeks after failing to hold down a regular spot in Jose Mourinho’s first-team.

Schurrle, who suffered with a virus at the start of this season, made just nine starts for Chelsea in all competitions this season but still managed four goals for the Blues.

World Cup winner Schurrle joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen for £18m back in June 2013 and scored 14 goals for the west London side.

The news comes as Chelsea close in on the signing of Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina in a £23.3m deal, which is expected to go through before Monday’s 23:00 GMT transfer deadline.
