Chelsea’s John Terry desperate to win Premier League title
Chelsea captain John Terry speaks on the ghosts of summers past
John Terry has set his sights on winning the Premier League after lifting the lid on the hurt of missing out on the crown.
The Blues had an outstanding record against their title rivals last season, recouping 16 points from a possible 18 against the sides which finished in top four.
Jose Mourinho’s side, however, ended up missing out on the title due to their poor form against lower opposition, and Terry has called on his team-mates to not repeat those mistakes.
Terry told Chelsea’s website: “Winning the league is the best feeling and, as someone who has been here a long time, seeing other teams win the league really hurts all summer.
“You go on your holidays and everyone thinks you get away from it, but you don’t.”
Chelsea are on course to win the top-flight crown for the first time since 2010, holding a seven-point lead at the top.
But ahead of Saturday’s visit of Burnley, there is a small mid-week distraction in the form of Paris Saint-Germain, but the Chelsea captain’s eyes have locked on the league.
The Blues centre-half believes that reclaiming the title could bring confidence back to Chelsea, who missed out on a trophy last season for only the third time since Roman Abramovic’s take over.
“It is the best title to go and win, domestically, and it would be a statement as well, after making some big signings this season, to then go on and win it and kick on after that,” Terry added.
