Thibaut Courtois says Chelsea number two Petr Cech is helping the Belgium goalkeeper reach a “very high level”.

The 22-year-old impressed manager Jose Mourinho so much following his return from an extended loan spell at Atletico Madrid that the Portguese coach bumped Cech down the pecking order.

Despite their fierce rivalry for a starting place in the Chelsea head coach’s side, Courtois revealed that Cech’s presence has been much welcome, especially considering his Premier League experience.

Quizzed by Champions Magazine on how Cech has helped the La Liga winner to improve, Courtois said: “If you can train with somebody who already has a long history of playing in the Premier League, he knows thing you don’t know and can give you tips.

“How he trains and the level we are achieving in training is so high that you improve – if he makes a great save, you want to make a great save too. So we keep each other on a very high level.”

Courtois has kept seven clean sheets in 22 Premier League following his return from Atletico.

The Beglium international is set to experience his first English cup final as Chelsea face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in the League Cup showpiece on Sunday.

Mourinho dropped Courtois after a number of nervy performances in favour of Cech for their 1-0 win against Everton earlier this month before the manager restored the young goalkeeper to his starting line-up for their 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
