Fabregas and more: Instagram reacts as Schurrle leaves Chelsea
Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis post tributes to Andre Schurrle after midfielder leaves Chelsea to join Wolfsburg
Andre Schurrle has left Chelsea to join Wolfburg in a £22m deal on transfer deadline day.
The midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half year contract to keep him at the Bundesliga side until June 2019 after being deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
The news came before Chelsea confirmed the signing of Juan Cuadrado from Fiorentina on Monday evening.
Schurrle, who suffered with a virus at the start of this season, made just nine starts for Chelsea in all competitions this season but still managed four goals for the Blues.
News of Schurrle’s departure from Chelsea promoted plenty of instant reaction from Chelsea players on social media – and here are some of the best updates.
Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas posted the picture above of the duo on his Instagram account and wrote: “Good luck on your new adventure my friend. We will miss you. @andreschuerrle”
Blues defender Filipe Luis also took to the photo-sharing app to wish the German all the best following his move: “Albino, it was an honour to play with you. Good luck!!! We will miss you. @andreschuerrle.”
And Schurrle’s girlfriend Montana Yorke took to her own Instagram account as she looked ahead to a “new chapter” in her life. She posted the photo below and wrote: “Feeling very sentimental right now! Just over 2 years ago my 19 year old self was on a plane to London with no idea what to expect on the other side.
“I’d just like to thank everyone who has befriended me in this time and taken me in and treated me like family when I was missing mine. I’d also like to thank everyone from Chelsea the fans the staff and the players for always being so incredible to me! On to the next chapter but this time with @andreschuerrle and Hugo at my side.”
