Fiorentina 2 Tottenham 0: Player ratings as Mohamed Salah impresses

Player ratings as on-loan Chelsea forward Mohamed Salah helps to fire Fiorentina to victory

By Sid Selant

Neto No real shots on target that tested the Fiorentina goalkeeper. 5/10

Stefan Savic The former Manchester City man was rarely tested and had a strong game. 6

Jose Maria Basanta Like his centre-half partner, not a lot to do in the game. Spurs didn’t pose much of a threat. 5

Marcos Alonso Neither of Tottenham’s wide players tested the former Sunderland left-back. Comfortable night. 5

Micah Richards Another former City player who will not have experienced an easier game for quite a while. 5

David Pizarro The veteran got on the ball but not as creative or influential as he would have wanted to be. 5

Matias Fernandez Part of a three-man midfield and stopped the visitors’ threat. Subbed on 25 minutes due to an injury. 5

Milan Badelj Had a great chance in each half to score with two shots. Fiorentina’s best player in the first 45 minutes. 6

Joaquin Not really involved in the game. Drifted in and out of the game far too easily. 5

Mohamed Salah (man of the match) Great chance in the second half to double the lead as he went through on goal but Lloris saved. He made up for the missed chance and doubled the lead from close range after a gift by Vertonghen. His pace troubled Spurs in the latter part of the game. 8

Mario Gomez The German forward netted after he capitalised on a mistake Fazio to run in on goal and bury it. 6

Gonzalo Rodriguez Replaced the injured Basanta. Hardly anything to do due to lack of attacks by the visitors. 4

Alberto Aquilani The former Liverpool player could influence the game and had a low-key game. 5

Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris The Spurs No1 keeper had a quiet first half but beaten by close-range goals by Gomez and Salah. 5

Vlad Chiricheș The Romanian defender wasn’t involved in the first half. Sound enough performance. 5

Federico Fazio Back at the back and forming a sound partnership with Vertonghen. One lapse of concentration cost him and Spurs. 5

Jan Vertonghen The ever-present Belgian rarely placed a foot wrong in the first half. Comical defending cost his team the second goal. 5

Ben Davies Playing more games in the Europa League, moved forward down the left to start attacks well. 5

Erik Lamela– Getting plenty of playing time but yet again failed to deliver. Not creative or strong enough to be earning a starting place. 3

Benjamin Stambouli Solid and powering performance in the middle of the park. 6

Nabil Bentaleb The Algerian international played with ease and confidence. 5

Nacer Chadli The Spurs winger didn’t provide enough width and lacked any cutting edge. Taken off with 28 minutes to play. 4

Christian Eriksen The Danish maestro was at the centre of all Spurs’ attacks. Played a delightful pass to slice open the Italian defence. But overall had an off day. 5

Roberto Soldado He lacked confidence and had a golden opportunity to score but completely fluffed it. 4

Harry Kane Came off the bench but made little impact. 5

Andros Townsend A second-half substitute but couldn’t turn the game around to lift Spurs. 5
