Five reasons to wish Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho happy birthday
Steven Prince is encouraging readers to celebrate Mamadou Sakho's 25th birthday
1. He may need reminding
Bon anniversaire Mamadou Sakho, who turns 25 today. While birthdays are seen as a big deal in France and Europe, the defender of Senegalese ancestry may be used to low-key shindigs. Birthdays are less important and significant in the west African nation, so arguably he needs a big fuss on his special day.
2. If Sakho says so, you do so
At a height of 6ft 2ins and weighing in at 83kg, topped off usually with a tribal-looking, brightly-coloured hair design, the Parisian’s appearance and physicality makes him as potent, visually as well as in reality, as a sledgehammer (speaking of which, happy 65th birthday Peter Gabriel) breaking through a flimsy wooden door. Depending on how brave one is, birthday bumps are optional.
3. Do as the French do
It is customary in France for those celebrating birthdays, usually for female admittedly, to receive bouquets of flowers on their birthday. Coincidently for Sakho, compatriot Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City shares a birthday with the Liverpool defender so they could take a birthday trip to a north western florist together as a friendly birthday jaunt.
4. Love is in the air
As tomorrow is Valentine’s Day – the loveliest day of the entire Gregorian calender – get into the spirit a day early, particularly if you are unlucky enough not to have a special someone in your life. Even if you do, I’m sure Sakho won’t mind.
5. He seems like a nice guy
The Frenchman was seen helping out with a homeless charity and based on Jose Enrique’s earlier Instagram post, Sakho is a top guy. Show him your appreciation on this, his 25th birthday.
