Harry Kane is massive for Tottenham, says Spurs legend Paul Walsh
Former Spurs man Paul Walsh says Harry Kane deserves new long-term deal
Paul Walsh has praised Harry Kane for his tremendous form this season after the striker signed a new long-term Tottenham Hotspur deal.
The 21-year-old striker has been rewarded with a new five-and-a-half year contract after the England Under-21 international scored 20 goals in all competitions this season.
He has nice feet, runs well with the ball and he scores all sorts of goal
Walsh, who scored 19 goals in 128 Tottenham appearances, admitted that he initially had doubts over Kane’s ability to lead the Spurs forward line but says the youngster has now proved him wrong.
“He has been a massive player for Spurs,” Walsh told Sky Sports.
“He has been magnificent. At the start of the season, I’m quite happy to hold my hands up here, I wasn’t sure he was going to be the answer to Tottenham’s prayers.”
Walsh continued: “I’d seen him on loan. He did ok but he hadn’t pulled up any trees. I didn’t see him having an impact on Tottenham this season.
“But every credit to the player. He has shown great appetite for the game. He has nice feet, runs well with the ball and he scores all sorts of goal.”
Kane was rewarded with his improved contract following the forward’s brace in Spurs’ 3-0 away win at West Brom on Saturday.
Walsh added: “Tottenham have recognised that [Kane’s form] and they have rewarded him with a long-term contract. It is great for the club.”
Kane’s new deal will keep him at the club until 2020 and Spurs fans will hope his form continues as the club look to finish in the top four this season.
The Tottenham academy graduate is being tipped to be handed an England call-up when Roy Hodgson chooses his squad next month for the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and international friendly against Italy.
