Jamie Carragher: Liverpool manager ‘brave’ to pick Jordon Ibe for derby
Jamie Carragher believes Jordon Ibe deserves an England call-up
Jamie Carragher has praised Brendan Rodgers for making the brave decision to start Jordon Ibe in the Merseyside derby.
The 19-year-old scooped the man-of-the-match award after an electric performance in an otherwise disappointing goalless draw at Goodison Park on Saturday evening.
The Liverpool teenager, who was recalled from his loan at Derby County last month, provided the best moment of the derby after he hit the woodwork with a powerful first-half effort.
While Carragher heaped praise on his former team-mate, the Liverpool legend reserved special praise for the 43-year-old Reds manager.
“A big well done to Jordan Ibe today [and] Brendan Rodgers for being brave enough to play him in such a big game,” Carragher wrote on Twitter.
Carragher was quick to make sure England coach Gary Neville had taken note of Ibe’s impressive performance, tweeting his fellow Sky Sports pundit following the stalemate.
The Liverpool icon added: “@GNev2 Gary Lfc look like they may be providing you with another player then hopefully we may win a game at the Euros!”
Neville, who won 85 caps during his Three Lions career, reassured the former Liverpool defender that Roy Hodgson and his staff were on top of things in the England set-up.
“@Carra23 we’ve got the Euro’s sorted don’t worry!” Neville said.
Liverpool face top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tuesday night.
