Jamie Carragher runs the rule over Liverpool transfer targets
Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to sign Danny Ings ahead of Saido Berahino
Liverpool should pursue Burnley’s top scorer Danny Ings over West Brom’s Saido Berahino in the summer, says Jamie Carragher.
The summer may be a distant speck on the horizon, but transfer talk about the two English forwards is rife and their prospective future clubs.
Ings has already scored eight league goals since stepping up to the Premier League, and Carragher has been impressed by his attitude.
“If I was Liverpool, I’d be trying to sign [Danny] Ings, even if [Saido] Berahino has a bit more class and is a slightly better player,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“The way Ings comes across and the way Berahino comes across, you wonder if Berahino has a slight attitude problem while Ings lets his football do the talking.”
The West Brom forward, 21, who was called up to the senior England squad earlier this season, has been quoted in various media outlets saying he may leave the club in the summer.
The slightly-older 22-year-old Ings is out-of-contract in the summer and attracted furtive glances from the Reds and Manchester City during January’s transfer window, after impressing at Burnley.
Liverpool signed forwards Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert in the summer, but neither has managed to set Anfield alight and goals from either player have been scarce.
