Jordan Henderson: Liverpool have fantastic momentum
Jordan Henderson praises Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho
Jordan Henderson says Liverpool have “fantastic momentum” ahead of the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The Premier League side fell behind in the FA Cup fourth-round replay after Bolton forward Zach Clough took a tumble to earn a 58th-minute penalty, which Eidur Gudjohnson duly dispatched.
Raheem Sterling levelled with five minutes remaining before Coutinho, who signed a deal on Tuesday, fired a long-range winner in the first minute of added time at Macron Stadium.
We’ll go into the derby with a lot of confidence
Liverpool vice-captain Henderson warned Everton that the Reds would approach the derby with a lot of confidence following their morale-boosting seven-game unbeaten league run.
“We’re delighted with the result,” Henderson told Liverpool Echo.
“Bolton made it difficult for us at times. We created a lot of chances but we just couldn’t find the net. Thankfully, Emre Can put a great ball in for Raheem and it was a great finish.
“At that point we were very confident we would go on and get the win and then Philippe scored a fantastic goal.
“For players like me, it makes it a lot easier giving the ball to the likes of Philippe, Raheem, Lallana and Sturridge, who have that ability to glide past players and produce the goods.
“They were outstanding again and hopefully they will continue to get goals for us.
“We’ve been great as a team over the past couple of months and we’ve got fantastic momentum building.
“We’ll go into the derby with a lot of confidence. Hopefully we’ll go into it and play like we have done recently. If we do that then we know we’ll get a good result.”
Liverpool are seventh in the Premier League table and four points adrift of the final Champions League spot after a 2-0 victory over West Ham United at Anfield last weekend.
Henderson has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season, scoring two goals and making six assists in 22 Premier League appearances.
