Juan Mata runs rule on Man United teenager
Juan Mata says Manchester United teenager James Wilson has a big future
Juan Mata says James Wilson has a big Manchester United future after the teenager scored in a 3-0 victory over Cambridge United on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old wasted no time in scoring after he replaced Robin van Persie in the second half, bagging his second strike of the season within seven minutes of his introduction.
Wilson made his debut under Van Gaal’s assistant Ryan Giggs last season before racking up a further 13 appearances in all competitions this season.
Spain international Mata, who broke the deadlock before Marcos Rojo added a second before half-time, is confident that Wilson will have a successful football career.
Speaking to talkSPORT following the 3-0 win, Mata said: “James has a great future ahead of him.
“Everyone can see he has a great left foot, it’s incredible the way he can finish. His touch is good and he is quick as well; he has everything to succeed.
“He will have to be patient because there are a lot of other players in the team, but I think he can be very important to the club in the future.”
United played out a goalless draw with their League Two opponents at Abbey Stadium last month, resulting in Tuesday night’s replay.
Van Gaal’s side face League One side Preston North End for a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
