Juan Mata warns Man United about Cambridge United threat
Juan Mata warns Manchester United to take nothing for granted ahead of their FA Cup replay with Cambridge United
Juan Mata has warned Manchester United that the Red Devils can ill afford to underestimate Cambridge United in this week’s FA Cup replay.
Louis van Gaal’s men host the League Two side at Old Trafford on Tuesday night after being held to a surprise goalless draw last month.
The Red Devils will be keen to book their place in the fifth round of the prestigious tournament, with United not having a chance of European success this season.
And the playmaker says that the Red Devils will be taking their lower-league opponents seriously in Tuesday night’s clash.
“A very cold Sunday has been the end to a week that leaves a good win at home [against Leicester], but there is no time for celebrations as this very Tuesday we have the FA Cup replay against Cambridge,” Mata wrote on his blog.
“We want to make it to the next round and we are absolutely focused on that because, as I said before, the team is very excited about this competition.”
The Spaniard continued: “In sports, having respect for your opponent is a must. Even more in football, where distances have shortened.
“That is something we are aware of ahead of our game against Cambridge. Not long ago they proved to be a tough rival.”
Spain international Mata has scored five goals and made three assists in the Premier League for United so far this season. He has started 17 games for the Red Devils this term.
Van Gaal’s United, currently third in the top-flight table, travel to West Ham United in their next Premier League game next weekend.
