Liverpool defender runs the rule over Mario Balotelli and Emre Can
Liverpool star Mamadou Sakho is happy to see Mario Balotelli get his reward for hard work on training ground
Mamadou Sakho has praised team-mate Mario Balotelli after the Italian scored his first league goal for Liverpool in Tuesday night’s exciting 3-2 win over Tottenham.
Balotelli came off the bench in the 74th minute before scoring the winner seven minutes from time – his first goal in 13 league appearances.
I know every day he works hard in training. I’m happy for him
The former Paris Saint-Germain defender told Liverpool’s website that he hopes this goal will be the first of many of the side for Italian international.
“It is great news for him, for the team and for the club,” said Sakho, “I hope we will score many goals for the club.”
The Parisian gave the former AC Milan forward a glowing character reference, stating how hard Balotelli had been working in training.
“He is a very good man and I know every day he works hard in training. I’m happy for him.”
Sakho then turned his attention to his fellow Anfield team-mates and how all the players are pulling in the same direction for the club – especially utility man Emre Can.
“[Emre] Can played very, very well and I want to congratulate him,” said the French international, who joined the club in 2013.
“But, for me, the most important thing is that all the players give 100% for the team because the most important thing is that we are a club.”
Since falling out with manager Brendan Rodgers over his exclusion from September’s Merseyside derby, Sakho has become a permanent fixture in Liverpool’s back three, starting every game in the league since 14 December.
