Liverpool legend questions how Jose Mourinho will fit Juan Cuadrado into side
Phil Thompson has questioned how Jose Mourinho will fit Juan Cuadrado into the Chelsea side.
The 26-year-old joined the Blues for £23.3m from Fiorentina, with Mohammed Salah joining the Serie A side as part of the deal.
Cuadrado is considered to be one of the top wingers playing in Europe with his pace and versatility proving to be the best assets of his game.
But while Thompson says the forward has all the qualities to play for Chelsea, the Liverpool legend is unsure of where he will fit into the team.
“We all saw Cuadrado in the World Cup as a wide midfield player,” Thompson told Sky Sports.
“It will be nice to see a player who is aggressive with his running and his manner.
“He seems to have that good attitude Mourinho is demanding from his players.
“We’re yet to see where he is going to fit in, because I can’t see Mourinho ousting Willian, Oscar or Hazard.”
Cuadrado was one of the star performers in the Colombia side that reached the quarter-finals of last summer’s World Cup, and he was also a key Fiorentina player over the past two-and-a-half seasons.
His arrival at Stamford Bridge adds extra quality and depth to Chelsea’s squad – and Thompson feels Jose Mourinho has been very astute in his transfer dealings.
“What we’re seeing is a very shrewd Chelsea operating in the transfer market, shipping Mata and David Luiz out for big money.
“Mourinho’s had a good look at Schurrle and Salah, and moved them on in place of someone who he thinks will fit the bill.”
