Liverpool transfers: Andre Ayew hands Tottenham boost
Andre Ayew admits he could leave Marseille in the near future
Liverpool have been put on alert after Andre Ayew has hinted that his future may lie away from Marseille.
The 24-year-old ignored interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham, to sign an extension with Marseille in December.
Now, due to financial crisis at the French club, the Ghanaian may already be on the move this summer.
“Olympique de Marseille has had financial worries for some time and cannot pay some salaries,” Ayew told RTL.
“Now, today, I am at Marseille but maybe I won’t be tomorrow. I still give them time to work and I get along very well also with the president Mr. Labrune.
“I think we will have a discussion at a future time, we will take a decision together.”
The midfielder scored his fourth goal of the season on his return to the French side in the 2-2 draw against Reims this weekend.
With three goals, he was one of the top scorers in this year’s African Cup of Nations, where Ghana fell agonizingly short, losing the final on penalties.
Ayew has been linked with Premier League clubs for a number of seasons, but has opted to stay in France.
At 25, he might feel this is the perfect time to look for pastures anew, after seeing his early promise stall.
