Liverpool transfers: Danny Ings would be great asset, says ex-Red
Phil Thompson would welcome Liverpool signing Danny Ings
Danny Ings would be a great asset to Liverpool, according to Reds legend Phil Thompson.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was heavily linked with the Burnley striker during the January transfer window, although a move failed to materialise.
However, the Reds are reportedly weighing up a summer move for the England Under-21 international, although they’ll face competition from the likes of Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Liverpool captain Thompson is a big fan of Ings, backing the 18-time English champions’ pursuit of the 22-year-old Clarets forward.
Asked if Ings would be a good signing for his former club, Thompson told Sky Sports News HQ on deadline day: “I think so.
“I think Danny Ings, the way he plays, he isn’t just a very good goal-scorer. He makes intelligent runs and movement, he has creative ability.
“We’ve all watched him on Soccer Saturday, and we’ve all spoken very highly of him. When he gets in the box, he can be clinical. He would be a great asset.”
The Liverpool target has scored seven strikes and has created three goals for his Burnley team-mates in 19 Premier League appearances this season, effortlessly making the step up from the Championship.
Ings, who is capped at England Under-21 level, scored 21 goals in 40 Championship appearances as he helped Sean Dyche’s side achieve promotion to the English top-flight.
