Liverpool transfers: Lacazette could seal England move, says expert
BT Sport expert Julien Laurens runs the rule over Liverpool target Alexandre Lacazette
Alexandre Lacazette could be on his way to the Premier League this summer, according Ligue 1 expert Julien Laurens.
The 23-year-old, who has scored an incredible 24 goals in 24 appearances for Lyon this season, has been heavily linked with a move abroad, including the Premier League.
I really believe he would do well in the Bundesliga but I think he prefers England and he might try come over here
The forward burst onto the scene last season, scoring 15 times in Ligue 1, and BT Sport’s Laurens feels Lacazette could leave France in the summer if his club have a successful campaign.
“I think if Lyon win the league, he will go,” Laurens told The Sport Review.
“If they qualify for the Champions league by finishing second or third I think he might give it another year.
“I think he has always wanted to be at the top level and play in the Champions League with his home club.”
Lacazette joined Lyon’s youth academy in 1998 before he was promoted to the first-team in 2010.
The striker has featured regularly in the first XI over the past 18 months, and he is expected to become an integral part of the France national team after making his debut for Les Bleus in 2013.
Lacazette has been heavily linked with five-time European champions Liverpool, despite his excellent form, Laurens isn’t convinced the forward is ready for such a big step at this stage of his career.
“It’s his first really big season and I’m just not sure if he is good enough already for a top-four club in England,” he said.
“I think the Bundesliga will suit him more than any other league.
“I really believe he would do well in the Bundesliga but I think he prefers England and he might try come over here.
“I think Brendan Rodgers really likes him.
“Rodgers likes those types of players that can play anywhere up front and with a lot of movement, so I think he could eventually fit in well there.
“But as I said, I’m just not sure if he is ready for that just yet.”
Lacazette missed Sunday night’s crucial encounter with fellow title contenders Paris Saint-Germain after being ruled out with injury for the second consecutive week.
Lyon remain on top of Ligue 1 by two points ahead of Marseille and PSG after 24 matches.
