Liverpool transfers: Mauro Icardi going nowhere, says Inter chief
Inter Milan want to keep Liverpool target Mauro Icardi, says the club's sporting director
Liverpool have been dealt a blow in the race to sign Mauro Icardi after Inter Milan reiterated that the Italy international won’t be sold in the summer.
The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Premier League leaders Chelsea and defending English champions Manchester City in recent months.
However, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers flew to Italy this week amid reports that the Reds could be stepping up their interest in the Inter forward.
But speaking to Sportitalia, the Serie A club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio stressed that Inter want to keep the highly-rated forward at San Siro.
“Mauro is a very calm, level-headed lad who’s completely devoted to his family. He works tirelessly during the week and scores goals on a Sunday.
“We’ve met with his agent a couple of times, but let’s not forget that his contract doesn’t expire for a good while.
“Of course, we want to keep hold of Mauro – and he chose to come here because he felt that Inter were the ideal team for him.”
The Argentina international has scored 13 goals and has made one assist in 21 Serie A appearances for Nerazzurri this season.
Icardi, who was born in Rosario like Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, has scored 22 goals in 44 top-flight games following his move to Inter from Sampdoria in 2013.
