Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers: Jordon Ibe getting better all the time
Brendan Rodgers heaps praise on Liverpool teenager Jordon Ibe
Brendan Rodgers says Jordon Ibe is growing all the time after the Liverpool youngster won the decisive penalty in a 1-0 victory over Besiktas at Anfield in the Europa League.
The Reds forward was handed his third successive start against the Turkish side, and the 19-year-old produced a late burst into the box to earn the home side an 85th-minute penalty in front of The Kop.
After much deliberation, Mario Balotelli converted the spot-kick to seal a 1-0 victory in the first leg of their last-32 tie ahead of their trip to Istanbul next week.
Speaking to the media following the narrow win on Thursday night, Liverpool manager Rodgers was quick to lavish praise on the England Under-21 international.
“You’ve seen the kid’s performances since he’s come back from his loan period and he is growing all the time,” Rodgers told Liverpool’s website.
“He’s played in big games and is getting good experience at 19. He is a real threat every time he has the ball.
“Not only that, but he works very, very hard for the team. He created the opportunity tonight for the penalty and it was an outstanding performance.”
Ibe scored five goals and made one assist during a short-term loan at Derby County earlier this season.
The Liverpool teenager could line up against top-four rivals Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday.
