Louis Saha: FA Cup can give Man United platform for success

Louis Saha says the FA Cup is an important competition for Manchester United

Louis Saha believes winning the FA Cup could provide Manchester United with a platform for success under Louis van Gaal.

The Red Devils set up a quarter-final clash against Arsenal after a 3-1 victory over Preston North End at Deepdale on Monday night.

United, who haven’t won the competition since 2004, are in fourth place in the Premier League table in hunt for a Champions League spot.

Former Red Devils striker Saha stressed the importance of the FA Cup in terms of building Van Gaal’s squad confidence going forward.

“”This competition is very important in terms of confidence. It’d be good for Louis van Gaal to bring some success through confidence. It’s definitely a platform to create a new period for Manchester United,” Saha told United’s website.

The former France international didn’t win the FA Cup during his United career, although the 36-year-old did help the Red Devils secure two Premier League titles, the Champions League and League Cup.

Van Gaal’s side have beaten lower league sides Yeovil Town, Cambridge United and Preston en route to the FA Cup sixth round.
