Louis van Gaal fires Man United warning at Ander Herrera
Louis van Gaal tells Ander Herrera that he will have to improve to earn a regular spot in Manchester United's first-team
Louis van Gaal has warned Ander Herrera that he will have to improve if he wants to start more games for Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has seen his first-team opportunities severely limited this season and has only started six Premier League games for the Red Devils so far this term.
His problem is that he has to compete with high-level players

Herrera has made a further six appearances from the bench, notching up two goals and three assists in the process.
But Van Gaal has told the midfielder that he will have to step his game up if he is to earn a regular spot in the Dutchman’s starting line-up.
Asked about Herrera’s situation at Manchester United, Van Gaal told his pre-match news briefing on Friday: “I have to compare him with people like Wayne Rooney and Juan Mata for example, so that is difficult. They all have a high level, so he has to improve.”
Van Gaal, however, was quick to praise Herrera’s attitude as the Spaniard looks to earn a more regular spot in the Red Devils’ first team.
“He is a great guy and a great professional also, so that’s not the problem. His problem is that he has to compete with high-level players,” added Van Gaal.
Herrera joined United from Athletic Bilbao on a four-year deal last June.
