Van Gaal has come in for a lot of criticism in recent days after United suffered their fifth defeat of the season following a 2-1 reversal at Swansea City on Saturday.
It also could be down to a lack of hunger and understanding. However, I do think Van Gaal will get it right and deserves time to be able to do that

But Van Gaal has won trophies in Spain, Germany and Holland ,and Nevin thinks that once his methods are adopted and understood, he will be a success at United.
Nevin told Newstalk: “There isn’t a single methodology that Van Gaal employs, but rather a variety of different ways he tries to win the game.
“A good example of this was the Dutch team during the World Cup where he would adapt his tactics and personnel to who he was playing.
“If changing the formation and players didn’t work, then he would tell his players to hit the ball long and see if they could profit from knock-downs.
“I admire the fact he can change his tactics and methods dependent upon who he is up against and it’s very rare you see managers in the modern game playing in one way, or with one certain style.”
Nevin also criticised the players, suggesting that the defensive players aren’t of the required standard to implement the manager’s philosophy.
He said: “It hasn’t worked out yet for Van Gaal but he isn’t trying to reciprocate styles that have been around in the past for United.
“What he is trying to implement is possession-based football, building it up from the back and I look at those defensive players and they are just not good enough to be able to do that.”
He also examined why United appeared to play in such a pedestrian way but concluded it was down to a number of factors.
Nevin added: “United aren’t capable of quick transitional play which is a surprise but that could be down to the poor form of some of their star players like Angel Di Maria and Wayne Rooney.
“But it also could be down to a lack of hunger and understanding. However, I do think Van Gaal will get it right and deserves time to be able to do that.”
