Manchester City will look to build a lead over Barcelona in the first leg of their last-16 tie as they aim to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League for the first time in their history.

The influential Yaya Toure is suspended for the first leg which could prove crucial in deciding the outcome of the match.

When the Ivorian has played, they have won 64 per cent of their matches, compared to 36.4 per cent when he hasn’t, and City are also playing a Barcelona side who are in great form.

They have won 11 of their last 12 matches with their only loss coming to Malaga. In comparison, City have been inconsistent and have only won six of their last 12 games.

City and Barcelona met each other at the same stage last season but the Blaugrana came out on top winning 4-1 on aggregate.

Manuel Pellegrini will be looking for revenge and City have been boosted by the return to fitness of James Milner, as well as the addition of Wilfried Bony, who was drafted into the Champions League squad at the expense of Stevan Jovetic in January.

Luis Enrique has the majority of the players available to him apart from Thomas Vermaelen and Douglas, and this will also be Luis Suarez’s first match in England since his departure from Liverpool in the summer.
