Man United are not a great side, says Arsenal legend Paul Merson

Arsenal legend Paul Merson is unimpressed with Manchester United

Paul Merson has blasted unimpressive Manchester United ahead of the Red Devils’ trip to Swansea City on Saturday.

Louis van Gaal’s side have been heavily criticised over the past couple of weeks for a series of turgid performances despite a four-game unbeaten run.

However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson claimed the Red Devils limped over the line in victories over Burnley and Leicester City in recent weeks.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Merson said: “Manchester United simply aren’t impressing me. In my eyes they are just not a great side and at the moment they are just falling over the line in games.”

United make the trip to Wales on Saturday as Van Gaal’s men look to extend their unbeaten league run to five games at Liberty Stadium.

Garry Monk’s side have struggled in recent weeks, winning one of their last four Premier League outings.

However, Merson reckons Swansea playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson could cause United problems.

“This is a tough test for them at the Liberty Stadium, especially with Gylfi Sigurdsson back for Swansea. He makes them tick and it’s a real boost he’s back. I can’t look past a draw,” Merson added.

United are in third place in the Premier League table and two points clear of the top-four chasing pack ahead of their clash against Swansea.
