Man United legend Paul Scholes questions ‘bizarre’ Louis van Gaal reaction
Paul Scholes was surprised by Louis van Gaal's Manchester United news conference outburst on Tuesday
Paul Scholes has admitted his surprise at seeing Louis van Gaal react to Sam Allardyce’s comments about his Manchester United side’s style of play.
The Dutchman raised eyebrows with an outburst during his pre-match news conference on Tuesday as he responded to the West Ham boss’ claims that United had resorted to long balls during the 1-1 draw at Upton Park on Sunday.
Van Gaal distributed a four-page document to journalists as he attempted to prove that West Ham produced a higher percentage of long balls than his team.
Why would you react to a West Ham manager?
But former United midfielder Scholes was stunned to see the Dutchman be so riled by Allardyce’s comments.
“Why would you react to a West Ham manager?” Scholes said, speaking on BT Sport’s Fletch and Sav show on Tuesday night.
“It’s different if it’s a rival manager like Chelsea or Manchester City’s, but at the end of the day you’re the Manchester United manager.
“I found it all bizarre to be honest with you, as I felt Allardyce’s comments were light-hearted in the first place.”
United take on Burnley at Old Trafford on Wednesday night as they look to return to winning ways in the Premier League.
Van Gaal’s side are currently fifth in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea after 24 games.
