Man United legend runs rule on ‘star’ striker Radamel Falcao
Dwight Yorke heaps praise on Radamel Falcao
Dwight Yorke has defended Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao after the striker ended his goal drought on Saturday.
The Colombia international doubled United’s lead at Old Trafford after Robin van Persie broke the deadlock against Leicester City in a 3-1 victory.
Falcao had struggled in the Red Devils’ previous outings against League Two side Cambridge United and Premier League strugglers Queens Park Rangers.
But United legend Yorke isn’t surprised to see the 28-year-old come good against the Foxes, hailing Falcao as a top-class goal-scorer.
“That’s why he scores so many goals in the past, he’s probably gone through a little rough time and there are lots of question marks over him at this time,” Yorke told Sky Sports.
“But the guy is a goal poacher and scores all types of goals. That’s more evidence of his star quality, he didn’t give up.
“I would like to think there’s no point in having these star names and not getting them out on the pitch.
“Certainly at home you expect all these big names to be on the pitch at the same time. The Man United way is the free-flowing attacking football, we want to see more of that.
“The result was evidence of having all the big names on the pitch.”
The former Atletico and Porto striker has scored just three goals in 13 Premier League appearances following his season-long loan move to Old Trafford from Monaco in the summer transfer window.
Falcao netted 41 times in 51 top-flight appearances during two seasons at Porto, before he bagged 52 goals in 68 La Liga appearances during his two campaigns with Los Rojiblancos.
United are in third place in the Premier League table and a point clear of top-four rivals Arsenal and Southampton.
