Man United transfers: Agent talks up £225m Cristiano Ronaldo move

Cristiano Ronaldo's agent says that the Portugal superstar could leave Real Madrid in a £225m transfer

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent has talked up the possibility of the Portugal superstar leaving Real Madrid in a blockbuster £225m transfer.

The Ballon d’Or winner’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months despite his successful spell at Real Madrid.

Ronaldo, who left Manchester United for a then world-record fee of £80m in the summer of 2009, has three-and-a-half years left to run on his current deal at the Bernabeu.

However, the 30-year-old’s agent Jorge Mendes says that the Spanish club could be tempted into selling their prized asset should an offer deemed big enough materialise.

“He’s the most expensive player ever in the world, because Ronaldo is the best player ever in the world, the best sportsman ever,” Mendes told BBC Radio 4. “You can’t compare him to anyone.

“A €1bn transfer is impossible, but if for any reason the club decide to sell him for €300m (£225m), someone will pay.

“He loves the Man United supporters, he told me. He started there.”

Ronaldo, who is understood to earn around £14.2m a year at the Bernabeu, has been linked with a big-money transfer back to Manchester United in recent months.

The former Sporting Lisbon man, who won his third Ballon d’Or last month, has a €1bn (£750m) buyout clause in his contract with the Spanish side.

Speaking last month at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Ronaldo admitted that he does not know where he will end his career.
