Man United transfers: Mats Hummels will stay at Dortmund, says expert
BT Sport's Raphael Honigstein tells The Sport Review that Liverpool target Marco Reus will join Real Madrid
Marco Reus will leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer but Manchester United target Mats Hummels is set to stay, according to BT Sport’s Raphael Honigstein.
The Dortmund talismen have been heavily linked with moves away from Signal Iduna Park since the end of last season, attracting interest from La Liga and the Premier League.
The most likely scenario is Reus going to Real and Hummels staying at Dortmund for at least another season
Reus has been regularly linked with a switch to Arsenal and Liverpool, while Hummels has attracted reported interest from Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United.
However, BT Sport’s European football expert Honigstein says he can’t see Dortmund allowing both Hummels and Reus to leave at the end of the season.
“I think Reus is probably going to Real Madrid,” Honigstein told The Sport Review ahead of his appearance on The European Football Show, live on BT Sport.
“I’d say all indications are that he is going there in the summer.
“Dortmund have had a policy of not letting more than one big name go every season so I think they will be trying very hard not to let Hummels go.
“I think the most likely scenario is Reus going to Real and Hummels staying at Dortmund for at least another season.”
Reus has endured an injury-hit season after having recently returned from a three-month spell on the sidelines.
But despite his fitness concerns, it seems his move abroad is fast approaching and it is only helped by a €20m release clause in his contract which will become active this coming summer.
Hummels, meanwhile, has continued to play down speculation linking him with a move away from Dortmund throughout the season.
In January, the German World Cup winner insisted that he was happy at the club and was focused on keeping his side in the Bundesliga after a miserable first half to the season.
Dortmund moved up to 16th place after a convincing 3-0 win away to SC Freiburg on Saturday, leaving Jurgen Klopp’s side one point from guaranteed safety.
