Man United transfers: Raphael Varane wants playing time at Madrid
Manchester United target Raphael Varane says competition with Pepe is not in his best interests
Raphel Varane has spoken of his desire to secure regular first-team football at Real Madrid amid reported interest from Manchester United.
The France international is currently behind Pepe and Sergio Ramos at The Bernabeu, prompting reports of a potential move to the Premier League.
Twenty-one year old Varane has started just 10 La Liga games this season, racking up less than 1,000 minutes of top-flight action.
Madrid are reported to be ready to use Varane as a potential makeweight in a deal to sign Chelsea shot stopper Thibaut Courtois.
Speaking to Surface, the Los Blancos centre-half discussed his current opportunities at the 10-time European champions.
“The competition with Pepe is not in my best interests, and it won’t be in the future. The objective is to be on the pitch,” Varane said.
Former United defender Rio Ferdinand has previously urged the Red Devils to sign the up-and-coming les Bleus star.
Meanwhile, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has also spoken of his admiration for the centre-half, who was handed his Los Blancos debut by the Portuguese coach in 2011.
